Existing train tracks in a rail yard adjacent to the Houston ship channel underlain by soft clay were settling and needed to be re-ballasted by up to 2ft every year. Deep Soil Mixing was selected to improve the soils to reduce settlement under existing and new tracks. Shooflies were installed to allow AGI to install the DSM columns where needed. Considerable coordination was required to ensure all DSM work was completed without interrupting rail yard operations. A load test was performed to confirm performance.
