AGI designed and constructed ground improvements to support the construction of (3) 126-150ft diameter storage tanks, contributing to a net increase of 10,000,000 barrels of storage capacity. AGI utilized Vibro Stone Columns beneath a tank with liquefiable soils to densify soils and distribute loads to control settlement. DSM columns were installed to assist in transferring tank loads below the surface soils that were not able to meet the desired bearing capacity for the proposed building foundations and to mitigate excessive static and seismically induced displacements. Load tests were used to verify compressibility parameters of the installed VSCs and DSM Columns. Targeted application of the VSC and DSM provided a technically sound and most economical solution to support the vital storage tanks.
