Moss Landing Battery Building

Displacement Grouted Columns (DGC)

Moss Landing, CA

Project Description

Installation of over 600 DGCs for the battery storage facility at the Moss Landing Power Plant. Nominal 16-inch diameter DGCs were specified for a 100-kip design
load in order to provide the required bearing capacity beneath the slab-on-grade foundation. The DGCs also served the purpose of limiting total and differential
settlements within tolerable limits.

Application

  • Increase bearing capacity of native soils
  • Mitigate compressibility of clay soils

Geotechnical Conditions

  • Medium dense poorly graded sand
  • Compressible clay
  • Dense to very dense sand
